Season 3 of hit German teen drama How to Sell Drugs Online Fast reached Netflix on July 27th. But did you know this unlikely teen drug lord story is true? How to sell drugs online fast? Donât google how to sell drugs online fast because youâll definitely get the feds on your tail. Judging by the Netflix series, you have to be some kind of cunning tech genius well versed with online currency Bitcoin at the age of 17. Combine that with the undying motivation of winning your ex-girlfriend back, then youâre all set with your small drug business, which eventually spirals out of control. This original plotline is not completely the product of a writerâs creativity as it is based on the life of Maximilian S, who was arrested in 2015. NEW Will there be How to Sell Drugs Online Fast season 4? screenshot, YouTube â Netflix How to sell drugs online fast IRL The mastermind behind Germanyâs infamous darknet drug business was 18-year-old Maximilian Schmidt, who hailed from Leipzieg, Germany. Throughout his two year run between December 2013 â February 2015, the teen was found guilty of selling 914kg of drugs over the dark web, landing himself only a seven-year sentence. Instead of MyDrugs, Maximilian innocently named his business Shiny Flakesâ, which sounds like some kind of candy for kids. In comparison to Moritz, the IRL dealer had bigger brains since he was the sole operator behind the shop â he didnât have a Lenny to back him up in the tech aspect of things. At his trial, Judge Norbert Göbel found Maximilian guilty of constructing Shiny Flakes and generating euros approx. $ worth of Bitcoin. He disguised his revenue as income from a web-design business, but eventually the police caught on to his movement. With so much at stake, Max successful kept a low-profile online but it was his IRL mistakes that gave him away. After using the incorrect postage on one of his packages, the mail was returned to the centre and was opened with the drugs inside. This occurred several times in the Leipzig, so the police monitored the post offices to see if it was the same sender. Being a one-man band, of course it was Max sending the packages and it didnât help that he consistently went to the same post offices. The police confirmed their suspicions when they bought drugs from Shiny Flakes, intercepting 40kg. When they witnessed a drug exchange, they stormed his house, with Maximilian failing to destroy his hard drives. Forbes also reports that the business did not always use Tor, an anonymising network, when selling, leading to their downfall. It definitely didnât help that they agreed to an interview with Vice Motherboard in 2014, confirming their location in Germany â seriously, how can you expect to not get caught after meeting with a popular online magazine? From his parents' home in the eastern German city of Leipzig, a teenager single-handedly â and successfully â ran a profitable drug business. Netflix has the true story. Teenagers dealing drugs online â that is a story Netflix tells in the award-winning series How to Sell Drugs Online fast. The third season just went online last week. The creators were inspired by the case of a real-life German teenage drug lord Maximilian Schmidt. Netflix followed up the hit series with a documentary about the young man that has just aired â Shiny_Flakes The Teenage Drug Lord. The film reveals how, at the age of 18, Schmidt built a veritable drug empire he named Shiny Flakes from his childhood bedroom in 2013. His family was totally unaware. "At the very beginning I was nervous about it," Schmidt says in the film, he remembers he would do something and fear that "boom, the police will come." In 2015, Schmidt was sentenced to seven years in juvenile detention German director Eva MĂŒller accompanied Schmidt for several years. Her team painstakingly rebuilt his childhood bedroom, down to the exact same furniture and bed linens he used to have. She had him reenact scenes, chat with make-believe suppliers, pack pink pills that were in reality candy in baggies. She spoke to him, interviewed his defense attorney, the prison director, the public prosecutor and Schmidt's psychological expert. In an email conversation with DW, MĂŒller said the idea of the film was to look for answers to the question How does a young person, who has never been criminally conspicuous, turn into a criminal sitting in front of his computer at home? 'This is crazy' For over a year, Schmidt sold more than 900 kilograms about 1,200 pounds of hash, cocaine, ecstasy, LSD and prescription drugs, according to media reports. The young man shipped these by mail around the world, effectively using the mailmen as his unsuspecting couriers. It was a highly professional business payments were made in advance the orders processed and shipped, "except instead of shoes, it was drugs," Schmidt said. In fact, he ran his own kind of Amazon for almost all drugs, said defense attorney Stefan Costabel in the film. Police found heaps of drugs in the young dealer's room Schmidt even had customer ratings, one of which he reads out loud in the film "Two of my teeth fell out right away, this stuff really f***s you up." Seemingly satisfied, Schmidt grins, looking quite pleased with himself. In fact, this is also what the legally appointed psychologist said of Schmidt, said director MĂŒller. "The psychologist, who wrote a report on him during the trial, said about Maximilian Schmidt, 'I experienced neither regret nor guilt, but pride instead.'" MĂŒller also said Schmidt was happy to tell everyone his story, otherwise he wouldn't have agreed to the film in the first place. That is also the reason why she made sure she spoke to the police, lawyers and other people involved in the case for a balanced perspective. No bad conscience In one scene, MĂŒller asks Schmidt whether his conscience never bothered him at all, because he was to blame for getting people hooked on drugs. The answer was no if people didn't buy from him, they would get their drugs elsewhere. And customers apparently simply found him via a Google search. "This is crazy," said Schmidt. "In a positive sense." Several undeliverable drug packages eventually led investigators to Schmidt, according to German media reports. In February 2015, police arrested the young man, who was 20 at the time, in the Schmidt family's apartment in Leipzig, seizing 320 kilograms of drugs worth several millions of euros. Schmidt was sentenced to seven years in juvenile detention. Four years later, in 2019, he was released from prison. According to Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland, a German joint corporate newsroom, Schmidt is under investigation again for selling illegal narcotics after his release from prison â though this time probably not alone. This point is also raised in the film by Petric Kleine, chief of the State Criminal Police Office LKA in Saxony. Director Eva MĂŒller also said her crew was aware of the fact that Schmidt was someone who didn't hesitate before committing a serious crime. Regardless, she's happy how the film has shaped up, also because it was difficult to visually depict a crime that took place online. "I think we have been successful in showing an online crime in an exciting, entertaining and enlightening manner," MĂŒller said. This article was updated on August 4, 2021 to include statements by Eva MĂŒller, who directed Shiny_Flakes The Teenage Drug Lord.

WARNING The following contains spoilers for Season 2 of How to Sell Drugs Online Fast, now streaming on Netflix. Season 2 of How to Sell Drugs Online Fast finds young Moritz Maximilian Mundt with his ego as swollen as ever as his online MyDrugs empire racks up millions of Euros. So much so, his Dutch business partner, Good Times, wants to expand operations, asking Mo to cut his friends out and come to Rotterdam as CEO. However, as Mo charts his course in a selfish manner, there are a couple of betrayals and sinister moves that put the teens from the small German town of Rinseln in a very precarious spot in the finale, "Don't Be Evil." Repairing The Home Mo's been feeling the pressure a lot as he's back with Lisa, lying to her and his cop dad, Jens, about what he's been doing in his spare time. To make it worse, Mo's mom, Bettina, has resurfaced with bad news - she's going to sell the house as it's in her name. Mo's hateful towards her, especially knowing how she keeps breaking his little sister's heart, but he gets an out when Dan's mom allows them a bank account, not knowing it's for laundering. They're able to withdraw cash and conduct online transactions, which gives Mo the chance to buy the house using MyDrugs' money. It comes in the form of an anonymous buyer who's letting the family live there rent-free, which results in an endearing party. Jens is relieved, admitting to Mo that he hasn't been the best provider following a fallout where Mo called him a loser. True Love Again? Mo, though, is in a state emotional flux, as he broke up with Lisa to focus wholly on the business. He wasn't even attending his exams the German equivalent of the SATs, but Lisa starts a fire so they'll be postponed as Mo isn't able to make it. She sussed out his MyDrugs empire on her own and while she's angry he dumped her, she still doesn't want Mo throwing his life away. They chat about the future afterward, and while Mo doesn't seem like he's going to be coming back to the light anytime soon, he's grateful Lisa hasn't given up on him. He knows that he's been backstabbing people lately due to his ego and obsession with expanding with Good Times, but he can tell Lisa truly loves him as she wants him steering away from his criminal passion. Bad Times Unleashed Mo's still breaking bad, though, locking his friends out the website and bank accounts, going to Rotterdam to take the deal. But at a Good Times party, he witnesses a girl, Mia, being murdered by Maarten after she resigned. She hated having to hide in the shadows over how they sold ecstasy and Mo realizes his worst fears have come true and he's in a gang. He initially lied to Lenny and Dan about Good Times being killers, but he's seen it first-hand now. Mo returns home, uncomfortable on the drive home with Maarten, but when he tries to warn his friends, they write him off. They think it's scare tactics so they'll keep quiet about MyDrugs and won't start a rival company. Mo really has no credibility left and so, desperate times call for desperate measures. He knows Maarten will be coming, as seen when he killed Mo's distributor in a plane crash in Season 1. The Deadly Alliance After Buba accidentally killed himself while torturing Mo's crew last season, Buba's mom and his drug crew coerced the teens into working with them in Season 2. Mo worked out a cocaine deal and the criminals got their $50,000 cut but just when it seemed like Mo was out, he has no choice but to go back in. He pays them off another sum of money to track his friends, leaving viewers worried he wants Lenny and Dan dead after they rebuffed him. It turns out, just when Maarten is about to snipe the teens out, Buba's people have actually come for him. They trailed Lenny and Dan, using them as bait, and tase Maarten, strapping him to his Tesla before auto-piloting it back to Holland. However, it's unclear if he's killed along the journey, which seems to be the case as he doesn't make it back to Good Times in the closing moments of the finale. The Sinister Shutdown As for the teens, Dan and Lenny's hacker girlfriend, Kira, try to coax Lenny to start a company to steal MyDrugs' clients. Lenny doesn't like copying code or ideas but when Kira reveals the money can be used for his cancer therapy, he comes around, adding they can put Mo out of business right now. Lenny built in a failsafe into his Pebble watch that could deactivate MyDrugs' Bitcoins, wipe the servers, client list and user data, and so, he erases MyDrugs from existence. It's "the thermal exhaust port in the Death Star," according to the nerd, which means Mo will have to answer to Good Times for the loss of their golden egg. The show ends with Mo in a flash-forward speaking to the documentary team about his story, opting to leave when he's questioned about choosing business over friends. The big reveal is Mo has been under arrest throughout the series thus far and as the cops take him away, he jokes with them about the secrets to success. It plays off the real-life story the series is based on with the dealer, Max, actually visiting the Netflix set from prison to offer advice, confirming Mo will fall in Season 3. How to Sell Drugs Online Fast stars Maximilian Mundt, Anna Lena Klenke, Danilo Kamperidis, Damian Hardung, Luna Baptiste Schaller, Leonie Wesselow and Bjarne MĂ€del.
